Does Having NASH Cause Breakouts?

Greetings, fellow warriors and readers. I apologize for my recent absence; I have been grappling with both physical and mental discomfort. One contributing factor to my frustration and insecurity has been breakouts on my face and upper body. As I navigate my 30s, I find that these issues are often prematurely judged by those who may not fully understand the complexities involved.

Is NASH the cause of my acne?

There are numerous reasons for breakouts, like stress and having an unhealthy diet, but one of the leading causes of mine is nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). When the liver struggles to function correctly, the body struggles with detoxification, which can lead to breakouts. This link between acne breakouts and NASH is an important one to understand.1

Keeping your liver healthy is essential

The liver is a vital organ that plays a crucial role in filtering toxins from the blood and metabolizing nutrients. When the liver is damaged or compromised, its ability to perform these functions diminishes, leading to a buildup of toxins in the bloodstream. Sometimes, this may lead to various health issues, including dermatitis or skin irritation.1

The liver also plays a role in regulating hormones, so when you have NASH, this can cause disruption in your hormones and, in turn, cause acne.

How to manage acne breakouts with NASH

First and foremost, it is essential to remain calm. I understand that managing high-stress levels and low self-esteem can be challenging; however, there are constructive steps you can take to promote skin healing and bolster your self-confidence. You are in complete control of your situation—remember to breathe deeply, maintain your composure, and persevere.

Hydrate

Increasing your water intake throughout the day is vital for maintaining healthy, hydrated skin and preventing breakouts. Additionally, it is essential to thoroughly remove any makeup at the end of the day.

Skincare routine

Establishing an appropriate skincare routine and selecting suitable products can further contribute to clear and healthy skin. When doing this, it is essential to find the correct products for your skin type. If you are unsure about your skin type, you can ask a staff member in most health and beauty stores to help guide you to suitable products.

Healthy diet

A healthy and well-balanced diet is crucial for maintaining optimal liver function. By reducing the intake of substances that are detrimental to liver health, such as saturated fats and sugars, we can enhance the liver's ability to detoxify effectively. Eventually, this will help lead to fewer skin breakouts and an overall improvement in well-being.

One of the biggest things that helped me lose weight was cutting out foods like bread, meat, fizzy drinks, chocolate, and sweets from my diet. For example, instead of having a tuna wrap, I would swap the bread for a bell pepper, cut that in half, and stuff my tuna filling inside each half. It's a yummy and healthy alternative.

Exercise

Regular exercise also helps with tackling NASH and restoring a healthy liver. It's easier said than done for some, but it's about adapting to specific exercises and finding what works for you.

Don't forget to take care of yourself!

Remember, taking care of yourself to the best of your ability is essential to reversing NASH and living a healthy life. I wish you luck on your healthy lifestyle journey. Remember, you can drop a comment below if you have questions or advice you'd like to share.
