8 Symptoms Caused By NASH
I was diagnosed with NASH in December 2022, but before I was given my diagnosis, I had many painful and persistent symptoms. Some symptoms have been worse than others. I have written a list of all the symptoms that I have suffered with in the past, caused by NASH, and some that I still suffer from.
Identifying my NASH symptoms
Since the beginning of my healing journey to restore my liver to good health, some of my symptoms have improved, while others have completely resolved. I am writing this article in hopes of helping you or someone you know who is struggling with NASH.
One thing I ask of you, as the reader of this article, is that you please remember I am not a medical professional and am not trying to diagnose you. All I want to do is spread awareness and eliminate shame by sharing my experience of living with NASH with you. If you are worried that you might have NASH or NAFLD, please get in contact with your doctor and ask for a liver function test.

View all responsesThe fatigue was one of the worst symptoms
Unfortunately, all those symptoms listed above are symptoms caused by NASH, and I have suffered from all of them. I was feeling exhausted, feeling a constant dull and painful ache in my abdomen. Personally, for me, fatigue was one of my worst symptoms. There were times when my body was so exhausted from just trying to survive that I had to plan and incorporate naps into my day-to-day life to get things done. Even small tasks like washing up or vacuuming would tire me out faster than usual.
The pain was bad
My abdominal pain was always on my right-hand side, underneath my ribcage area, and a dull ache in the bottom of my back, also on the right-hand side. It felt like a high-speed football had hit me, and all my ribs were bruised. I was always feeling nauseous, and I was often sick after meals. Sometimes my exhaustion would cause me to vomit. Keep in mind my exhaustion was not from anything strenuous, just from daily tasks. That is how intense the fatigue was; I always woke up tired and needing more sleep.
The itching was uncontrollable
When it comes to the itching, it felt awful at times, uncontrollable. The itchiness was usually on my lower legs. The bruising would happen a lot, but it still happens now after managing to get my liver back to normal. I usually get bruising from all the itching I do, but even kneeling on my yoga mat would leave my knees and calves bruised.
I hope this article helps you in some way, and if you are struggling with any of these symptoms, please seek medical advice.
